Looking for Actors Who Love Theatre!
We’re currently casting for In The Bedroom: A Festival Of One-Acts, to be produced in our theatre space in Theatre Row in Hollywood starting the first weekend in April. Here’s your chance – the material is fresh, the directors are top-notch – sure to be a great production!
Breakdowns have been posted on Actors Access and LA Casting (the links are embedded in the name of each role below). Please submit through either one those two systems (only one is necessary). For those submitting via Actors Access (link) – you need to search ALL projects, ALL breakdowns, and either the project title “In The Bedroom” or the casting office “Studio C Artists” to find the project.
Rehearsals will be scheduled during the following times, based on each directors’s availability (a more detailed schedule will be posted once each One Act is cast):
Steeplechase (weekends too), No Expectations, & Powder Keg – Mondays through Thursdays (daytime)
All Other Shows – Fridays (Late Afternoon/Early Evening), Saturdays & Sundays (9AM-5PM)
Additional rehearsals will be scheduled as needed on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights.
There will only be 3-6 rehearsals necessary for each play. So, these times are just guidelines for availability for all of the pieces (i.e., each play will only be allotted part of these times).

Each play will have six performances. Play performances will be Friday and Saturday nights (alternating) – only one performance per week. There will be roughly 3-6 rehearsals per play. Rehearsals will take place some weekday afternoons, and on the weekends.

The Hot Seat by Craig A. Bealer
Synopsis: CESSY, a high profile divorce attorney, relieves pressure by preying on younger men. Her pre-game routine is flipped when her ”prey” (HENRY) turns out to be the son of her client and therefore the son of her opposition. He will do anything to keep his parents together. She will do anything to keep them apart. “The Hot Seat‚” pits a young, naive idealist and an older, jaded, cynic, in a verbal spar that explores the confines of marriage and the inner workings of two people at two very different points in their lives.
[CESSY] Female. Any ethnicity. 40-50 years old. Relatively fit. An attorney, she is Type-A across the board. Exudes power. Ball-buster. She commands a courtroom, judges, and men. It is not clear if she disfavors marriage from a bad experience or is simply too practical to give marriage much credence.
[HENRY] Male. Any ethnicity. 19-23 years old. Thinner. Frail or weak in appearance. Lighter hair and youthful complexion. Exudes innocence. Sophomore, junior or senior in college. Wants to be a teacher. Parents are filthy rich, but he is not spoiled. He sees the good in people and can process their flaws. Has a great perspective for being so young.
I May Be Dead But I Still Love You Baby by Diana Chiritescu
Synopsis: What happens when a newbie Angel of Death’s first assignment turns out to be the person she once was in love with? Set in the modern day, this is the basic concept at the heart of ”I May Be Dead But I Still Love You Baby,” a dark comedy with a good helping of moral conflict. So how long is it acceptable to grieve before moving on? Is it right for an Angel of Death to kill or not to kill? When does self- preservation versus self sacrifice rule?
[HARPER] Female. Any ethnicity. 20-28 years old. A quirky, fun and loving person, Harper is a vegan whose new job as an Angel of Death is in direct conflict with her morals. But after spending six months in limbo, she is not willing to go back. Embarrassingly enough, she got hit by a car while illegally crossing the road while looking at her phone. Though she has a good heart and easily charms people, she is not a pushover, though many people may assume it by her easy going nature.
[RORY] Male. Any ethnicity. 20-28 years old. Harper’s boyfriend at the time of her death. Rory is truly an average guy–average job, average apartment and average life. Well, except for the fact that like Ed Wood, he is a heterosexual man who just happens to enjoy wearing women’s panties. He often takes himself too seriously, and thinks cursing and using the Lord’s name in vain is undignified. But he secretly just wants to rebel against society’s strict social norms. His lifestyle habits aren’t particularly healthy, and he loves smoking cigarettes and eating Americanized Mexican food.
[SAGE] Female. Any ethnicity. 25-35 years old. Pretty. Innocent.A believer in true love, Sage has been mourning the death of (her true love) Merritt for five years and counting… She started researching the supernatural in an attempt to communicate with Merritt and it shows–she wears a lot crystal energy bracelets, charms and always carries an emergency Ouija board and tarot cards.
[MERRITT] VOICE-OVER ONLY. Male or female (though female preferred). 25-35 years old. Intellectual, ambitious, and aggressive. Merritt used to be a sensitive, kind-hearted poet… while alive. After dying, the sensitivity went inwards and a cynical attitude replaced it. Merritt’s #1 goal is ascending the corporate ladder at ”Deaths R Us” and having been recently promoted to ”Death Supervisor” means being one step closer to the top.
Steeplechase (Late Night Fight) by Scott Gerard
Synopsis: A young couple comes back from a friend’s party, where John accidentally let the cat out of the bag about his girlfriend Jess’s pregnancy. Needless to say, she wasn’t too happy and they are discussing it as we join them. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only bump in the road tonight for this couple. Can they resolve their differences or does it only get worse from here?
[JOHN] Male. Any ethnicity. 27-35 years old. Good looking. Athletic. The endearing boy next door that has a lot of potential, but also has a lot of rough edges to file down. He is understanding and patient, but he also has his limits and Jess can find them. He wants to do the right thing, but just doesn’t think it should be so hard.
[JESS] Female. Any ethnicity. 25-33 years old. Attractive. Strong. A bit tightly-wound. A witty, strong willed woman that knows exactly how she wants to be treated. She’s been hurt enough in the past to know all the signs of a man that won’t commit. All of her fears have been heightened by recently finding out she’s pregnant.
Roshambo by Jed Rapp Goldstein
Synopsis: Jesca is a young woman navigating her dating life through trial and error. When she makes the error of booking her two main men, Blake and Dean, for her bedroom on the same night she is forced to judge a trial. As the guys try to accept the fact that non-exclusive relationships require sharing, they can’t help but vie for supremacy in each other’s presence. The question isn’t who Jesca will pick, but whether or not she even has to.
[JESCA] Female. Any ethnicity. 25-33. A bright, beautiful elementary teacher who still has lots of fun in her free time. Jesca is a beer-over-wine, low-drama, open-minded woman who has no qualms about speaking to the truth of a matter. But she‚’s thrown a lot of curve balls in this one-act, so a broad emotional range and expert timing is required.
[DEAN] Male. Any ethnicity. 26-34. Warm and handsome, but goofy. Dean is our earnest, sensitive, nice guy, who surprises Jesca on his way home from the airport. Dean isn’t the smoothest guy but what he lacks in overt charisma, he makes up for with kindness, attention and a playful sense of humor. He has confidence and knows himself well, but doesn’t thrive in conflict so must dig to put up a fight for Jesca. He goes through a wide range of emotions in this one-act, from excitement and lust to embarrassment and anger, all with cohesive personality and comic timing.
[BLAKE] Male. Any ethnicity. 25-32. Dark, wily, brash and generally badass. Blake loves his motorcycle and his bar. Blake lives simply and in the moment so isn’t used to stopping long enough to reflect. He also typically has more than one lady in his life, but may have reached a point where one serious girlfriend would be good for him. Exercising his sensitive side and tempering his distain for his co-suitor all while making his case to Jesca is Blake‚’s central challenge.
No Expectations by Michael Lamb
Steven, a middle aged drag queen receives a knock on the door 2 hours early for a meeting he has scheduled with his estranged daughter, Emmanuelle. Emmanuelle is a heavy metal band singer guised in dark goth make-up and black clothing. Her realization that she has a father is very recent and slowly it is revealed that her father did not abandon her as she was told. The deception created by her mother turns into a double deception that is brought to the emotional surface by her father.
[STEVEN] Male. Any ethnicity. Early 50’s. Steven is a professional drag queen at night and a bookkeeper by day. He is a well organized man, yet very sentimental. Steven has a heart of gold, but is also quick to defend himself. Experience as a professional drag queen a major plus!
[EMMANUELLE] Female. Any ethnicity. Early 20’s. She is refreshingly young and unabashedly gothic. She wears a nose ring, smoky black eyeliner and lipstick, leather and metal studs. She is the lead singer in a heavy metal band. Emmanuelle has an edge, but also has a great sense of humor. Although she has a tough exterior, inside she has always struggled with her reason for living.
Powder Keg by Rochelle Leffler
Synopsis: South Boston, April 5th, 1968 – the day after Martin Luther King’s assassination. Two teens (black male/white female), weigh and measure whether or not they should risk their lives and travel across their burning city to the Boston Garden for a James Brown concert. Their friendship is tested as both their city and relationship are on the brink of destruction, torn apart by violent racial riots.
[EMMITT] Male. African-American. 18-25 years old (to play 17-18 years old). Must be believeable to still be in high school. He’s a passionate, innocent black kid forced into manhood by the death of MLK.
[MAGGIE] Female. Caucasian. 15-17 years old. She’s a white, blue-collar girl from Southie with a secret life and passion for black American music. BOSTON ACCENT
Breaking and Entering by Evan McNamara
Synopsis: A wife cheating on her husband with his best friend, is more than surprised when her husband sneaks into the house dressed as a burglar. Thinking it’s just part of the role play with her lover at first, she is caught off guard, when it appears that the two men may be cooking up something together.
[GLORIA] Female. Any ethnicity. 30’s. Beautiful. Sexy and she knows it. Gloria likes being the wife of a wealthy man, except for the whole being a wife part. She is a thrill-seeker and loves the fantasy of new things.
[CHARLIE] Male. Any ethnicity. 30’s. Everyman. Gloria’s husband. Lawyer. Oblivious to anything wrong in his marriage. Charlie’s a nice guy. Not good, not bad, just “nice”. He means well, but lacks balls.
[CHET] Male. Any ethnicity. 20’s. Good build, athletic. Handsome. Rookie cop. Green and naïve. A little slow on the uptake, but he’s in law enforcement for the right reasons: to protect and serve. Noble, but easily misled. Not above getting “perks” from wearing the uniform.
Check Out by Jonuel Pozo
Synopsis: After long, meticulous planning, MITCH and CODY, two aging gay men check themselves into a hotel room determined to commit suicide. As they prepare for their last final venture together they engage in a hilarious account of their 25 years as best friends and roommates and the dynamics turn esoterically absurd as the two men revisit their views on life, love, old age, reincarnation and more.
[MITCH] Male. Any ethnicity. 55-65 years old. Sharp and forthright, prone to using big words and a master at maintaining his icy demeanor. His pragmatic take on everything possibly hides a vulnerable man who once felt lost and was never able to find his way back to himself.
[CODY] Male. Any ethnicity. 55-65 years old. Goofy in an adorable way. Uncomplicated and big-hearted. A born giver, his selfless concern for the wellbeing of others occasionally morphs into codependency.
Nobody Move by Zander Roberts
Synopsis: A seemingly nice, wholesome couple finds themselves in a motel the morning before they are supposed to rob a local bank. However, as it turns out, the job at hand becomes the least pressing matter affecting them.
[MATT] Male. Any ethnicity. 25-30 years old. Handsome, but with an edge. Very kind and lovable, goofy even, but could turn on you if pushed far enough. Loves his fiancé but lives in his own world. Has seen one too many movies. Well intentioned, aloof in an endearing way. Wants to make something of himself in all the wrong ways.
[TRACY] Female. Any ethnicity. 25-30 years old. Pretty. Down to earth, much more grounded compared to Matt. Straight shooter, not afraid to speak her mind. Loves Matt very much, but is struggling with something buried inside her from the outset. Wants things to go back to the way they were.
Margerie by Scott Strong
Synopsis: A fledgling serial killer meets his match when he breaks into a suicidal woman’s bedroom. Jimmy likes to kill big, happy girls. He mistakes Margerie for a big, happy girl and follows her home intent on making her the fifth victim in his serial killing spree. After a few minutes in her bedroom, trying to gin up some terror, Jimmy starts thinking this one was a wrong decision. When Margerie announces her glee that Jimmy has come to kill her, and recounts her many attempts to do it herself, Jimmy knows he‚’s made a wrong turn and tries to escape. But now Jimmy‚’s the hostage, and Margerie is not letting him go until he does what he came to do.
[MARGERIE JOHNSON] Female. Caucasian. Early 30’s. A big, sturdy, girl. Margerie is rarely phased by anything going on in the present. Her brain is a swirl of every thing that has ever happened in her past, starting with the day, when she was six, and her father gunned down her mother and two sisters as she watched. Margerie has no sense of what’s appropriate. She is unable to be embarrassed. Margerie has attempted suicide dozens of time, without success. Ultimately, she is a survivor‚ despite her best attempts.
[JIMMY] Male. Caucasian. Late 20’s- Early 30’s. Scrawny. Twitchy. Nervous. But he tries to hide it. He wants to be in control, but never is. He’s prone to extremes in emotions. He is easily frustrated. He longs for love in a way that he’s unaware of. Jimmy fancies himself a thinker. Jimmy is a serial killer, and a mama’s boy.
